Costume Jewelry Care
Caring for your costume Jewelry
Costume Jewelry should be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off. Don't put your jewelry on until after you've applied your make-up, perfume, lotions, oils, hairspray, etc., and allowed them to completely dry.
Keep your costume jewelry dry by avoiding wed, damp, and humid conditions, if possible.
Ingredients from beauty products, salt water, chlorinated water, cleaners, and even the pH of your skin could react with your jewelry and cause them to tarnish, change color, or begin to rust.
Remove your jewelry before swimming, bathing, washing dishes, sleeping, etc. or any other activity that may put jewelry under stress.
Don't use jewelry cleaners made for solid metal jewelry, they are too harsh for costume and fashion jewelry. Instead, use a mild dish soap (I recommend Dawn Dishwashing Liquid), warm water, and a very soft brush or cloth if needed. Gently brush or wipe any dirty areas and rinse with plain water. Immediately place the jewelry on a drop paper towel or cloth and blot/wipe the piece until dry. For more intricate pieces, do not wipe. To be sure the piece is dry, you can use a fan or hairdryer set on low to get air moving around the piece.
It is highly recommended that you store your costume jewelry in an air-tight container or plastic bag. Adding an "anti-tarnish paper" to the container or bag will help keep your jewelry looking it's best.
Each item is expertly handcrafted using quality materials. However, it should be noted that these items are intended to be worn decoratively. Belts specifically, should not be worn for utilitarian purposes (i.e. used to hold up one's pants or hang a tankard from) unless described for such purposes. Doing so may result in damage to the belt. Further, accessories should be worn as recommended. When wearing items such as belts, necklaces, bracelets, etc., the fit should be loose and comfortable in order to prevent damage while crouching, bending, twisting, etc. These items are adjustable to ensure a proper fit for bodies of all shapes and sizes. If you have any questions regarding the proper fit or sizing of an item, please feel free to send us a message.
